Plainfield Library one of only five to win Humanities award

Continuing its winning streak of awards, Plainfield Public Library Director Joe Da Rold announced Wednesday that the library was selected as one of only five libraries in New Jersey to receive the New Jersey Council for the Humanities 2007 book award collection.

The Council annually recognizes authors and non-fiction books that deal with New Jersey subject matter. Copies of each of this year's thirty-six titles will be donated to the library's New Jersey collection, already considered to be of great depth and importance.

The Plainfield Public Library serves as a resource for local and New Jersey history materials for an audience of thousands from the city and the surrounding communities.

Director Da Rold will receive the award on behalf of the library at a luncheon in October.

Author and Newsweek columnist Jonathan Alter will be honored at the luncheon for his new book, "The Defining Moment," a new biography of FDR that focuses on his first hundred days in office and his plan to lift the country from despair toward hope that the Great Depression could be licked.
