Suspect in 2003 Plainfield murder may be back in US

Suspect in slaying may be back in U.S.



ELIZABETH: The Union County Prosecutor's Office and Plainfield police are asking for the public's help in locating Fausto Santos, wanted in the 2003 brutal killing of his girlfriend, Martha Morales.

Morales was stabbed more than 20 times the morning of July 27, 2003, in her basement apartment on East Third Street in Plainfield, where she lived with Santos and their son.

Santos, also known as Balivar Herrera and Boliva Santos, was in the United States illegally in 2003. He fled to his native Ecuador after the killing, authorities said.

Detectives from the Union County Prosecutor's Office say they have reason to believe that Santos may have recently re-entered the United States.

Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Plainfield Detective Edwin Maldonado at (908) 753-3415 or Detective Manny Rivera at (908) 753-3008. The Crimestoppers ti pline at (908) 654-TIPS also may be called.

County Prosecutor Theodore J. Romankow said Crimestop pers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and indictment of Santos. All calls to the Crimestoppers Tipline are strictly confidential and anonymous, he said.
