Mayor to honor long-time Plainfield postal employees this morning

Plainfield Mayor Sharon Robinson-Briggs is slated to join Postmaster Radames Rivera at 10:00 AM Friday morning (today) at the main Post Office on Watchung Avenue to honor five employees who  have served for forty years or more.

Those being honored are --

  • Dorothy Bender - Window Clerk, Plainfield NJ (42 years)
  • Doris Bradshaw – Supervisor, Cust. Serv., Plainfield NJ (43 years)
  • Timothy Maher – Letter Carrier, Plainfield NJ (40 years)
  • Gary Shelhimer – Letter Carrier, Plainfield NJ (42+ years)
  • Hans Price – Letter Carrier, Plainfield NJ  (43 years)
The five Plainfield postal employees will be surrounded by their co-workers as each is recognized by Plainfield Postmaster Rivera and Mayor Robinson-Briggs for providing four decades of postal services to the greater Plainfield community. Only Maher and Shelhimer have retirement plans.

The postal workforce of 580,000 employees processes 170 billon pieces of mail per year for delivery to 149 million addresses across the nation.  The decades of service by Ms. Bender, Ms. Bradshaw, Mr. Maher, Mr. Shelhimer, and Mr. Price are reflective of the spirit, pride, and commitment that postal employees throughout the nation have for the communities where they work and live.

A personal shoutout to Dottie, known to all who use the Muhlenberg Station for her patience and unflappability -- even at Christmas when the lines stretch out the door.

Congratulations to all.
