Giant 'rummage sale' of Charlie Brown's items benefits Plainfield Habitat

Plainfield's Habitat chapter benefits from the sale of items from the now-closed Charlie Brown's restaurant at the Woodbridge Mall. The sale runs today (10 AM - 5 PM) and tomorrow (11 AM - 5 PM) at the former restaurant, which is adjacent to the Sears store.

The items are arranged throughout the former restaurant, which was packed when I visited on Friday afternoon.

There are hundreds of items, each individually tagged with color-coded stickers indicating prices from $1 to $100.

For the practical-minded, the chairs and tables are an absolute steal.

Chairs and tables are a steal.
There are also antique and vintage photographs, all matted and framed, most for just $10, as well as posters and advertising memorabilia.

These 1920s Flappers (my camera was
out-of-focus ) are one example
of the many finely matted and framed photos available.
The proceeds benefit the local Habitat for Humanity chapter through a partnership with General Growth Properties, which owns the Woodbridge Mall.

Rev. Jeremy Montgomery, the local chapter's executive director, estimates the sale could bring in as much as $10,000 for projects planned and under way.

A rendering of the planned multi-family project slated for West 7th Street on display at the sale.

Besides the Charlie Brown's merchandise, you can show your support for the organization by purchasing T-shirts or baseball caps, or by talking with the helpful volunteers about how to join in Habitat's construction efforts. More information is available on the chapter's website at www.gphabitat.org/.
