Hidden Plainfield: August 7 is Quadruplets!

Fourth copy of the plan is on Belvidere Avenue at Gresham Road.

Thanks to Pat and Bill Kelleher, who live in one of the three 'triplets' featured in yesterday's Hidden Plainfield, yet another copy of this home is on Belvidere Avenue, making it QUADS!

Checking the comments early Sunday evening, I got the Kelleher's note and dashed out to catch the 'new' house before it got too dark. Perhaps the reason I've never noticed it before is the extraordinarily tall hedge -- probably 8-foot at minimum, making only the roofline visible unless you drive really slowly and take a hard look.

Here's the lineup --

  • Top: 700-block West 8th Street
  • Middle: 900-block Madison Avenue
  • Bottom: 900-block Hillside Avenue
  • 4th House: Belvidere Avenue at Gresham Road/Park Place
Though they are obviously based on the same plan, there are lots of little variations between them, as the owners had the plan customized for their own tastes and needs.

Where shall we go next week?

I would guess the four houses were built by the same builder back in the day when property owners bought a building lot and contracted for their house to be built. Another common Plainfield style from the early 1900's is the Dutch Colonial, of which over two dozen were built here over the years by the same builder. Why change success?
