FEMA aid for residents, SBA loans for businesses

Plainfield residents and businesses affected by Hurricane Irene damage have until October 31 to register for and claim emergency assistance.

RESIDENTS

Residents who suffered damage due to Hurricane Irene will have a final chance to meet with a FEMA representative at Emerson School this coming Friday from 6-8 PM. Available programs and application procedures will be explained and applications will be available. Emerson School is at the corner of Emerson Avenue and East 3rd Street.
BUSINESSES
The Small Business Administration will open a Business Recovery Center for Union County businesses affected by Hurricane Irene on Tuesday, October 11, at The Incubator, 320 Park Avenue (see story here).

SBA representatives will be on hand to issue loan applications, answer any questions about the program and help applicants with their applications.

The Business Recovery Centers will be open Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 6 PM (beginning this Tuesday) until further notice.

Applications by businesses for physical property damage -- which may borrow up to $2 million for repair or replacement of damaged or destroyed real estate, machinery, inventory and other business assets -- must be made by October 31.
