Malware may deny Plainfield computers internet access Monday

Seeing a green background means your computer is malware-free,
a red background means you're infected.

Malware may deny some Plainfield computers Internet access as of tomorrow. Here is what you can do to make sure your computer is NOT affected.

The malware, known as DNS Changer, infected about 4 million computers worldwide as the result of an Internet advertising scam. Preparing to take down the scam's servers, the FBI discovered that doing so would prevent those innocent 4 million machines from accessing the Internet.

The good news? The FBI set up servers through which affected computers are able to go seamlessly to the Internet. The bad news? The FBI is shutting down those servers tomorrow. Anyone whose machine is infected will lose Internet service unless they remove the offending malware.

Several sites have been set up making it easy for computer owners to check out their machines (mine passed with flying colors). Read the details in this Bergen Record story, 'How to test for DNS Changer malware', which includes links to testing sites.

Do it now. It will take you twenty seconds.

If you don't, it may be a REAL HEADACHE fixing the damage.
