Gingerbread houses, Plainfield Symphony on tap Saturday

Saturday will be a busy day in Plainfield, with a PSO concert in the evening and a Gingerbread House decoration celebration at Plainfield High School.

The Gingerbread House extravaganza is being sponsored by the Greater Union County Chapter of Jack and Jills and will be in the PHS Cafeteria.

Youngsters and families enter their Gingerbread House fantasies for a delightful and delicious showcase that is open to the public.

Attendees are asked to bring donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items for distribution during the Holidays. Lunch is available for $5 per person. The show runs from 11 AM to 2 PM. Parking in the Kenyon Avenue lot adjacent to the Cafeteria entrance.

At 7:00 PM, the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra's 94th Season continues with 'Broadway Stars Over Plainfield', featuring the music and show tunes of Cy Coleman.

Coleman, a child prodigy, was an American composer, song writer and jazz pianist whose career flourished in the latter part of the 20th century.

PSO Music Director Charles Prince will be joined by Broadway stars Emily Skinner and Gregg Edelman in presenting a kaleidoscope of Coleman hits, including Hey, Look Me Over; If They Could See Me Now; Witchcraft; and Hey, Big Spender.

The concert gets under way at 7 PM at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, Watchung Avenue at East 7th Street (Parking in church lot, on the street, or in Swain Galleries lot).

Tickets: $50/Reserved, $30/General admission, $20/Seniors/Students; under 12 free. Info at the PSO website: www.plainfieldsymphony.org/.
