Plainfield Symphony premiers work by composer to the Popes Saturday

Msgr. Marco Frisina, composer to the Popes, will conduct
the 95th season opening concert of the Plainfield Symphony Orchestra.

The Plainfield Symphony Orchestra opens its historic 95th Season on Saturday with a gala concert entitled 'Musical Treasures from Rome: The Music of Marco Frisina'.

The program, conducted by the engaging composer himself, includes the world premiere of a symphonic work commissioned as a gift for the PSO by the orchestra’s Principal Bassoonist, Lee Doswell.

From Rome, Marco Frisina is a world-renowned composer and the founding director of the 250 voice Choir of the Diocese of Rome. His body of work includes over 415 liturgical and sacred songs, numerous oratorios, over 30 film scores and several operas. He is the recipient of numerous international awards including the US Cable Ace Award for the movie 'Joseph'.

Known as a composer to the Popes, many of his works were inspired by and specifically written for John Paul II. Monsignor is a gifted priest, composer, conductor, professor and sought after lecturer as both a Dante and biblical scholar. For Frisina, music is an act of love.

This is very special opportunity to hear diverse selections of his music that range from film to opera to the sacred including the commissioned Sinfonia Mysterium Paschale.

The Plainfield Symphony will be joined by the Crescent Choral Society in collaboration with the Continuo Arts Symphonic Chorus and dramatic soprano Elizabeth Perryman.

Plainfield Symphony Orchestra concerts are performed at Crescent Avenue Presbyterian Church, East 7th Street and Watchung Avenue. (Parking in the church lot, on the street, or in Swain Galleries lot)

Tickets: $50/Reserved, $30/General admission, $20/Seniors/Students; under 12 free.

This concert will be repeated at a 3:00 PM non-subscription performance on Sunday, October 12, at the Ridge Performing Arts Center in Basking Ridge.
