Shakespeare's 'Romeo and Juliet' in the Shakespeare Garden Sunday

Lawn signs promoting the performance have been sprinkled
throughout the park in recent days.

Plainfield's Shakespeare Garden will host the kickoff performance of Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet in a free performance this Sunday (July 12) at 2:00 PM.

It will be the first of six performances in various Union County parks by the Shakespeare Theater of NJ's summer troupe, the Next Stage Ensemble.

The group is composed of early career actors and offers performance opportunities for young people working toward a career in the theater. Illana Stein directs this production of Shakespeare's perennially popular romantic tragedy.

'Romeo and Juliet' has famously provided the story line for one of Broadway's most popular musicals 'West Side Story' and it will be interesting for attendees who have seen that show (or the movie version) to make comparisons.

Bring along a chair or blanket and enjoy this free performance. Parking available along the drives in Cedar Brook Park (mind to park on one side only and that the park drives are ONE WAY).

This and the other performances are made possible by the Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders. For more information on the other performance times and locations, visit www.ucnj.org/.
