The Mapp administration's proposal to outsource the Planning Division will be taken up tonight. |
Plainfield residents will have a last chance to express their opinions and concerns about the Mapp administration's proposed outsourcing of the Planning Division at tonight's City Council business meeting.
The proposal is perhaps the most contentious move the Mapp administration has made since coming into office. The administration argues that outsourcing will save the city money.
The Planning Division staff and many supporters of Mayor Mapp argue that the "savings" will not materialize (in fact, costs may be even higher), service will suffer and precious and irreplaceable institutional knowledge will be irrevocably lost.
Here's the drill --
- Two opportunities to speak:
in comments on the agenda items (it is resolution R384-15) at the
beginning of the meeting; and general public comment at the end of the
meeting.
- Procedure:
Take your place in line; when you reach the mike begin by clearly
stating your name (spell it out if you need to) and address for the
record. Residents speak first, non-residents may speak after residents
are finished.
- Address the Council President: You are speaking to the Council, not the audience, and should face the Council President at all times.
- Know what you want to say:
Speakers are given a set amount of time. Think about what you want to
say beforehand so you get to make all your points. Back-and-forths are
not allowed, so make points clearly.
