Magic 8-Ball tells all for 2016

All will be revealed in due time.

2016 will prove to be an interesting year in Plainfield politics. Let's check in with the Magic 8-Ball.

SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION

The Board of Education has stirred up a hornet's nest with a secretive vote to move the school board elections from November back to April.

The move appears to have been taken at a work/study session immediately after the November 3 general election. It was not listed on any agenda, so a resolution is presumed to have been a walk-on matter. There was no public notice or discussion of the measure or its expected $115,000 annual cost (which will be stolen from the kids).

That has left plenty of taxpayers and parents hopping mad.

It seems hardly likely Mayor Mapp will let this one go without a challenge.
CITY COUNCIL ELECTION

The 2016 rota for City Council elections is comprised of the Citywide at-large seat and the Ward 3 seat.

Councilors Tracey Brown (at-large) and Gloria Taylor (Ward 3) will complete their current terms on December 31.

Will Plainfield Democratic chairperson Adrian Mapp seek more active involvement from committee members in the council candidate selection process? That certainly is a possibility, given his opposition to the high-handed methods of former chairperson Green.

If that is the case and prospective candidates must face a vetting process, there is a local version of "the Donald Trump question" to be layed out: If you do not get the nomination, will you support the party's candidate?
BEYOND PLAINFIELD

There is plenty of speculation about Assemblyman Jerry Green's health and ability to perform his duties -- as Assemblyman and as Union County chair.

There is already scuffling behind the curtains over what happens if Jerry must step down as county chair.

Will 2016 hold any surprises in politics beyond Plainfield?
Magic 8-Ball says: Stay tuned.
