The historic district has renamed its scholarship in memory of Dottie and Joe Gutenkauf. |
In Feburary of this year, the Van Wyck Brooks Historic District voted to rename its annual scholarship award for graduating Plainfield high school seniors in memory of Dottie and Joe Gutenkauf.
The Gutenkaufs were residents, members and strong supporters of the VWB Historic District as well as activists in the community at large.
Recipients of the scholarship award are high school seniors, chosen by a volunteer scholarship committee of VWB members, who have submitted written essays on topics related to community building, followed by interviews with the finalists.
The Gutenkauf children, Jon and Polly, are pleased their parents are being honored in this way by the neighborhood Dottie and Joe called home for many years.
