Dem Primary: The boldest and most honest thing Tracey Brown ever did

I
t was a cold and blustery day in January 2014 when Councilor Tracey Brown spoke at the inauguration of Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp.

At that event, Brown did the boldest and most honest thing she had ever done, she told the assembled crowd to support the new Mayor, saying --

"it does not matter who you voted for, Mayor Mapp is the Mayor of the City of Plainfield ... if he does well, the City does well, so let's get behind our Mayor and support him"
See a short video of her remarks here.

And Mayor Mapp and his team certainly have done well.

Consider these accomplishments in just 30 months--

  • Mayor Mapp recruited an ace detective from the Union County Prosecutor's office, Carl Riley, as the city's new Police Director. Tough but fair, Riley has pursued accreditation for the Division and brought cronyism to an end, improving morale and reducing both violent and non-violent crime throughout the City;

  • Mayor Mapp's team has secured hundreds of thousands of dollars from the State and Union County to continure the program of road improvements throughout the City;

  • After decades of stagnation, Mayor Mapp's team, led by Economic Development Director Carlos Sanchez, has revved up development with new projects under way in all four Wards of the City, including --

    • A residential and warehouse complex on South Second Street for which ground was broken last Thursday;

    • 100 units of age-restricted apartments on Roosevelt Avenue, now nearing completion;

    • The South Avenue Gateway project, soon to break ground; and

    • Conversion of the long-vacant DYFS building at 7th and Park into apartments and retail, which just won County approval this week.

Mayor Mapp's team includes the "Column A" candidates in tomorrow's Democratic Primary --

  • Rebecca Williams for Citywide Councilor at-large

  • Charles McRae for Ward 3 Councilor

  • Linda Carter for Union County Freeholder

They are joined by Freeholder candidates Kowalski and Granados, Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman and -- at the top of the ticket -- Hillary Clinton.

Do as Tracey Brown once honestly and boldly declared and support Mayor Mapp's team at tomorrow's Democratic Primary. Vote Column A, all the way.

As Brown says, "if he does well, the city does well".

Polls are open on Tuesday, June 7, from 6:00 AM to 8:00 PM. Unaffiliated voters may declare  a party registration at the table to vote in the party primaries.
