FEMA representatives will be at the Plainfield High School cafeteria today from 4:00 to 8:00 PM for one-on-one meetings with Plainfield property owners.

Billed as a "Flood Risk Open House", the event provides an opportunity for residents to view the FEMA Flood Maps and learn of the individual flood risk, getting answers to your questions from FEMA representatives and experts.

The Open House by FEMA is at the invitation of Plainfield Mayor Adrian O. Mapp, following up on a public meeting he held on the topic last November (see my post here).

This map from a 2006 DPW mailer shows the general areas
considered in a flood zone in Plainfield. FEMA reps will have
more up-to-date information at today's Open House.

As you can see from the map above, most homes in the First Ward are considered in the flood zone (according to a 2006 DPW mailer), as well as swaths of properties along the (mostly underground) Cedar Brook in the Second and Third Wards.

Residents should bring along a copy of their property survey and insurance documentation.

The cafeteria is at the rear of the PHS complex. Parking and entrancefrom the Kenyon Avenue parking lot.
